Lori Wilson has been selected to be FP&M’s new Strategic Communications and Marketing Director. Lori (she/her/hers) will start work on June 17, 2021.
Lori brings over 15 years of experience in communications & marketing and collaborative leadership to FP&M. She has held such roles at UW–Madison for the past six years. Additional, private-industry marketing work for sectors including aviation services, land development, and educational publishing has helped Lori to become a versatile, resourceful problem-solver, and an experienced, hands-on marketer and communicator.
As a part of the Office of the Associate Vice Chancellor (OAVC), Lori will work closely with FP&M’s Core and Extended Leadership teams to amplify strategic priorities while strengthening communications with internal and external audiences. As director, she will lead the OAVC Communications and Marketing team in developing, executing, and evaluating communications and marketing plans to support the success of FP&M business operations; maintain a favorable brand identity and awareness among internal and external stakeholders; and ensure consistent images and messaging across multiple platforms.
Lori steps into this role replacing Kelly O’ Loughlin, who left earlier this year to take on the role of Creative Services Director at University Marketing.
“I am most excited to tell the story of FP&M, because this division has shown, especially over the last year, that it is the backbone of the university,” said Lori.
Lori has held other roles on campus since 2014 — most recently, as the marketing automation administrator for the UW–Madison Division of Continuing Studies where she helped units across the university succeed with Oracle Eloqua, an email marketing and marketing automation program. As UW’s Eloqua expert, Lori created a training program, supported more than 500 users, and provided guidance on email marketing best practices. These efforts resulted in the number of units who were able to successfully use the program to quadruple during her 18 months on the job.
Before that, Lori was the Marketing & Communications Director for the UW E-Business Consortium and the Marketing & Communications Manager for the UW Internet of Things Lab/Center. At the UW E-Business Consortium, she was responsible for developing and executing marketing and communications to engage members from some of Wisconsin’s largest companies. She directed content development, member communications and event promotions. Lori also served as a key member of the UWEBC’s conference team, helping to grow registration and sponsorship.
Lori also brings FP&M valuable experience from time in the private sector. Notably, she worked with architects, engineers, and planners to communicate the value of aviation projects and services while she was a part of the marketing team at Mead & Hunt. There she honed her ability to translate technical descriptions into clear, easy-to-understand stories that showed the project’s value.
She holds a bachelor of arts in mass communications from Kansas State University in public relations and women’s studies.
