Numbers like these are just a small glimpse into the many hours of work Facilities Planning & Management employees put into making Commencement events possible. Across this year’s four events, over 12,000 students graduated with more than 54,000 people in attendance.

Andrew Henter never expected that his degree would lead him into the crawlspaces and mechanical rooms of UW–Madison. While officially a Zone Facility Specialist with FP&M Physical Plant, the former criminal justice major could easily go by the alternate title of building detective.

Mohammed El Hallaoui has found confidence in work that often takes him more than 100 feet in the air. As lead of FP&M’s East Window Washing team, he and his colleagues keep campus windows sparkling while also pitching in on moves, event setups, and even lighting support.

Letters and packages appear at university mailboxes every weekday, but the process behind how mail moves through campus can be a mystery. He’s no magician, but, at times, the work of FP&M Shipping and Mail Coordinator Dan Schroeder can look like magic.
