Building Manager Update (November 19)

Here are a number of updates and reminders about FP&M operations.

Post-Thanksgiving Custodial Services

Starting on November 25, custodians will stop servicing most instructional spaces as the university shifts to online instruction for the remainder of the semester. Service for Virtual Learning Spaces will continue through the end of the semester.

At the same time, custodial services will resume for offices and laboratories, but it will continue to be the responsibility of building users/occupants to take their trash to the appropriate central receptacle. If there are spaces that are normally serviced that you would like us to omit cleaning, please contact Kris Ackerbauer at 608-265-2758.

New Work Request Tiles in AssetWorks

We recently added two new tiles to the AssetWorks ReADY self-service site: Move Request and Bio-Safety Cabinet Services. Please use these tiles for the corresponding types of work requests instead of the more general Customer Request tile.

Use the Move Request option to request, identify, and fund moves supported by either the Space Management Office or Physical Plant—Campus Services (or both). Moves are funded using Customer Numbers in the same way as work requests for Physical Plant shops.
Use the Bio-Safety Cabinet Service option to facilitate repair, certification, and relocation of biosafety cabinets (BSCs). Work involving these assets is funded using predefined funding information. Contact the Biological Safety Cabinets (bscservices@fpm.wisc.edu) team if you have questions or funding changes for biosafety cabinets.

October Physical Plant Operations Report

The October 2020 Physical Plant Operations Report provides an update on operations and maintenance activities, utilities operations, and construction and renovation projects. In addition, this month’s report includes articles about laboratory renovations for COVID-19 testing, preparing HVAC systems for winter, restroom renovations, and tracking the reliability of campus utilities.

Reminder: Summer 2021 Project Submission Deadline

The deadline for submission of project requests for summer 2021 construction is December 1, 2020. Projects will be collaboratively prioritized and selected for construction in summer 2021 that have the greatest impact to the University’s mission and that will also benefit from reduced campus occupancy.

Reminder: Fall Semester Physical Security

While most in-person instruction will move to a virtual format after the Thanksgiving recess, most campus facilities will remain open, just as they are today, through the end of the semester. This phase of the semester does not constitute a campus shutdown or closure.

Note: In-person or clinical training for graduate/professional programs in some units (SMPH, Pharmacy, Nursing, Vet Med, Law, Education, etc.) will continue past Thanksgiving.

Requests for restricted access, which must include justification as well as documentation of the appropriate Dean/Vice Chancellor approval, must be sent to UWPD Access Control (access@mhub.uwpd.wisc.edu).
